Hi, Angry Chef...

Let's face it, you are the COOLEST food blog in the blogosphere. I like it that you're angry. People that cook (and that spend time in the service of other people) ought to be treated with a little more respect. I like that you drink. I like that you smoke. You probably drink and smoke together. I like that, too.

Well, if you're angry now, NYC would just make you furious. No smoking in bars or restaurants. However you can get drunk and smoke at this bar I know (which shall remain nameless, but the whole place smells like beer and they have a lot of TVs that air a lot of of footie) where the Britsy barman looks like Buddy Holly and even HE smokes.

Also I think it's funny that people who love to cook hate...and I do mean HATE with a spewing venom, that chipper little weasel Rachael Ray from the Food Network. How did she get on there? What is she smiling about? Where did she get that great gig and the nice kitchen? Sigh.

Anyway, love the entries. Work hard, play hard. Love, Ann in NYC.

She has made passing comments about being a waitress and (I am assuming) a cook at some point in her life, at least, I hope so. I don't know how a waitress would get a cooking show. Anyway. My hypothesis is that the obnoxious attitude is to cover deep emotional scarring from mistreatment at the hands of customers. At least, I hope so, because I refuse to believe that someone is born that irritating.

I lived with a two-bit cook, took her in because she was having a hard time making ends meet, trying to help her out. Of course she gambled all her extra money away. Anyway, once she moved in, she criticized me left and right, because she was perfect. Not to mention trying to take over my entire apartment. And then she was fired from her job because she screamed at all the other employees. When I suggested she make amends, she cut me off (thank goodness!).

If she was smart, she would have figured out a way to buy her own restaurant instead of gambling all her money away.

I actually never seen this Rachel Ray(I don't have cable)but everyone I know seems to despise her. She seems like she might be extremely perky. That in itself is grounds for execution.

Rachael Ray's official Food Network bio says she was a restaurant/pub manager, food buyer, gourmet market buyer and chef, teaching cooking classes at her market.

As a non-industry person I can't really say whether she seems very chef-like. She's a bit cloying at times, but I've seen some decent recipies on there. Same can be said for Emeril though...

I think Emeril is a decent chef, and I'd probably watch his show -- if he didn't pass himself off as a Loud Ugly American with no g r a c e . He's making cooking accessible, and he's appealing to a mainstream audience, but there's just something about his delivery that is not mainstream to me, but more like the appeal of the lowest common denominator. More garlic? More beer? More cayenne? bam -- hee hee! It's almost like he turned cooking into a game show, with all the audience whoops and the little live intro. What is this, Letterman? Conan?

f he weren't a cook, I can almost see him as a truckdriver.
